From Overcoming Abuse to Art Therapy:

Bringing Health Education to the Barbadian Public

Stress relief, overcoming abuse, and art therapy – these are just some of the items on the programme for the Barbados Reiki Association’s Holistic Health Fair (HHF). The HHF, returning to Harrison College for the fifth consecutive year, will be held on Sunday April 8th from 9am to 5pm.

The fair also includes booths focusing on biodiversity, organic nail therapy, and much more. Healing therapies such as Reiki, reflexology, energy healing, aromatherapy, massage, and natural skin care will also be on offer. But that’s not all.

“One of the reasons our HHF is “a fair with a different flair” is because we want to do more than let the Barbadian public try complementary therapies and products,” says Association President, Ms. Eugene Holder. “As Reiki practitioners, educating people about ways to take their healing into their own hands is also important to us.”

This year, the HHF will be opened by Minister of Health, the Rt. Hon. John Boyce. After that, there’s a full programme of talks and demos running throughout the day.

“We’re particularly proud of this year’s slate,” says Ms. Holder. “It includes presentations on autism, trauma release, meditation and other healing modalities. There will also be interactive demonstrations of boxing for fitness and line dancing”.

The HHF will also feature art and creative workshops run by recent winner of the 2017 NIFCA Governor-General’s Award for Excellence, Linda Deane. As always, healthy food and drinks will be on sale throughout the day.

With all the stresses of the current local, regional and world situation, there’s never been a better time for Barbadians to pay attention to their health, says Ms. Holder. “After a day at the HHF, patrons will be better informed and able to explore holistic practices they can use to empower their own healing.”

Admission to the 2018 Fair remains at $5, with the price per therapy capped at $20 to allow patrons to enjoy several therapies.  Tickets can be purchased in advance by contacting Eugene Holder, the Association’s President at : +1 246 822 7145.
